Michelle Malkin and some of her readers asks WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE? She and others are questioning the female police escort. I don't see anything wrong with that particular female escort because the guy is handcuffed behind his back and there's a number of cops and SWAT team members around. They just aren't shown in that particular picture.
Did having a female grandmother escort this guy cause these deaths? Of course. It did because he overpowered her and took her weapon that apparently was used to kill the three people. But like a lot of things
in life I think that act of overpowering her was the end result of a
whole chain of events. She was only playing the cards dealt her.
Certainly you have to question their prisoner handling procedures and also why there weren't procedures in place to shut the building and/or block down after such an incident. It gets even worse because the car they thought he escaped in was found in the building's garage 14 hours later. That makes it pretty obvious that no police checked for it in the meantime. They only checked the video tapes hours later when it should have been within minutes. All of this makes it pretty obvious that there was a security problem in the Fulton County Courthouse. It just manifested itself in the events that unfolded last Friday.
The person at fault here is the person in charge of security for the building. I don't know if that is the Sheriff of Fulton County or not, but whoever it is doesn't have it under control. It's very obvious that they have no procedural control of anything regarding security. Even in the smallest courthouses or jails in the country, it's standard procedure for an officer not to be alone with a prisoner and if they are going to be in close quarters to disarm themselves with another armed officer watching. That didn't happen last Friday.
These people didn't have to die. Some will blame it on budgets, lack of funding or whatever but the bottom line is this could have been prevented with the application of just a minimum amount of security standards and good old common sense.
