It's only 16 days until the Vols open their season at UCLA. I decided to take a look at their season and make some predictions. Remember that you read it here first. To wit:
Game 1 at UCLA: The Bruins lost their starting quarterback to injury last week so I give the advantage to the Vols. But it might be a tough game since they'll be playing their first game under the new OC. I give them a win in this game but it will be close as the Vols struggle with the new offense.
Game 2 home vs UAB: A win. Vol offense looks improved from the first game.
Game 3 home vs Florida: A tough and close game for both teams. These teams like to win on each other's field. The Vols could win this one but their offense still isn't up to snuff. It's a close loss for the Vols.
Game 4 at Auburn: A loss. And the rumbling starts about Fulmer. The Florida loss takes too much out of the Vols and Auburn always plays Tennessee tough. And this game is at Auburn. No way.
Game 5 home vs Northern Illinois: A breather after two very tough games and a win.
Game 6 at Georgia: The Vols have owned the Bulldogs of late. But not this time. The 'Dawgs are still pissed from what happened to them last year in Knoxville and they're 5-0 coming into this game. Close but a loss. 0-3 in the SEC and the fans are wanting to hang Fulmer high.
Game 7 home vs Mississippi State: A win. The Vols are mad from the loss in Athens and the offense begins to get it together.
Game 8 home vs Alabama: The Tide kicked our butt last year in Alabama. It's payback time. A win. Vol offense is beginning to click. This win puts Fulmer back on the track for some fan support.
Game 9 at South Carolina: The 'Cocks lost a heartbreaker in OT to the Vols last year. They want revenge. Spurrier thinks this is his best Gamecock team. I think the Vols win it in Columbia in OT again and it's an SEC win. Fulmer loves that and the fact it was Spurrier's loss.
Game 10 home vs Wyoming: A win. Vol offense is becoming good and moving the ball at will.
Game 11 at Vanderbilt: A win.
Game 12 home vs Kentucky: A win but not easily. Kentucky takes them to OT.
Bottom Line: 9-3 overall with all three losses coming against SEC teams. 5-3 in the SEC. The Vols win their last five games and while they're out of the conference championship Fulmer keeps his job another season.
