The Medlocks are in the middle of one of those periods that seem to occur every year or two in which we have multiple breakdowns. For some odd reason these things never happen in isolation. They only happen in multiples.
This particular valley began in late spring with Mrs. Medlock's pool developing a leak. The pool is losing about an inch of so of water a day beyond evaporation. I'm the designated pool boy and of course it's not a visible leak and therefore difficult to find. The call went out to the pool doctor to find what I cannot. I'm hoping he does and soon because last month's water bill was not pretty. I expect a call from Al Gore any day now and Greenpeace marching in my street.
That leak was then followed by the hard drive on my 15 month old Dell crashing. Out of warranty by three months. Of course. Fortunately the only things worth saving, i.e. I Tunes music, Russian photos, etc were backed up. A new hard drive from Dell? $99 plus the hassle of reinstalling everything.
Next we discovered a stain in the master bathroom ceiling that surely looked like a roof leak had caused. The leak was near the bathroom vent and that was repaired last year so I don't know if we have a new leak or just hadn't noticed it from last year. But it's got to be checked by the roofer.
And just last night the central air-conditioning unit started having trouble blowing enough air to cool the house. Accordingly the repairmen came today and the only thing found was that the refrigerant was a bit low. I'm not sure I believe that since the unit never did lower the temperature by even one degree yesterday. Normally it would handle that with ease. We shall see.
I hope this thing has run its course but it's possible that it has only switched from mechanical to human. On Saturday while pressure washing the pool area I tripped and fell over a chair and busted my butt good. Based on the bruising and soreness I think my tailbone might be broken. Or as Sheriff Ed Tom might say, "if it ain't, it'll do until a real break gets here".
And so it goes.
