Mrs. Medlock and I wound down the year on New Years Eve as we usually have the last few years, that is to say asleep.  It somehow seems fitting for 2010.  But before we did we both had the week after Christmas off.  Here's the best five things I did during that week.

1. I caught True Grit with the Professor.  Faithful readers know that I love Westerns and it's a good one.  It isn't the Coen's best flick but I don't think they will ever top NCFOM.  The 13 year old girl who plays the Kim Darby role is terrific.  She deserves an Oscar nomination.  It's funny too--my favorite line:  "Keep your seat, trash".

2.  I read Decision Points by George Bush, Life by Keith Richards and The Girl That Kicked the Hornet's Nest by Stieg Larsson.  Quite a contrast.  The best of the three?  Larsson by far.  Also the best of his triology.  Recommended highly.

3.  After a trip to the Knoxville Apple store, decided I will undergo a conversion and buy the new IPad when it comes out in the Spring.  I am at the stage where I simply do not need a laptop anymore and the hands on I had in Knoxville convinced me the IPad is the way to go.  The real question is whether I go beyond wireless to 3 or 4G.

4.  My gym was closed several days over the week so I walked our local Greenbelt.  I started there in the eighties when I could run it.  Now I walk it.  I had forgotten how much more enjoyable it is to walk outside instead of on a treadmill.  The trail begins less than a half-mile from my house.  If only Al Gore would come through with global warming...

5.  Bought a bottle of Bushmills.  That's heresy in Tennessee (sipping, etc) so I did it under cover of darkness.
