PRO FOOTBALL PICKS--WEEK 10
The Titans have won two in a row and this week they're up against the Bills. I had tickets to this game but sold them because I wanted to see the Titans play the Cardinals in a couple of weeks. I thought that would be a better game but given the Titans struggles maybe this one is. Who knows?
Titans 24, Bills 21--The experts think this game is a toss-up. So do I. It's going to come down to how the Titans defense plays. Plus they have home field and I think that's a slight edge.
Colts 30, Patriots 27--Another toss-up game and another home field edge but this time to the Colts.
Steelers 30, Bengals 28--The Bengals have played well all season including beating the Steelers previously. But I think the Steelers are playing better now and they're at home. That's right--home edge again.
Chargers 37, Eagles 20--Eagles had a terrible game last week and you never know which McNabb is going to show up. Chargers sometimes have the same problem but I think they are clearly a better team than the Eagles.
Packers 30, Cowboys 24--This is my upset special. Cowboys have been rolling along fine but it's time for one of their second half of the season swoons. This looks like the game to me.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL--WEEK 11
I had a great week last week since I didn't make any picks. But I'm back in the saddle this week.
Mississippi 24, Tennessee 21--I would have picked the Vols over the Rebels had it not been for the three arrests yesterday. I think that distraction will affect the Orange just enough to lose this game on the Rebel's home field. Not to speak of losing our starting safety. Clearly someone got stuck on stupid yesterday.
Ohio State 33, Iowa 20--The Hawkeyes quarterback is out with an injury. The game is in Columbus. The Hawkeyes season is coming apart at the seams.
Pittsburgh 30, Notre Dame 24--A loss in this game could seal Charlie Weitz's fate. I can't see him winning on Pittsburgh's field.
Southern Cal 37, Stanford 20--Stanford is a good team but not as good as the Trojans.
Florida 27, South Carolina 17--I think the Gamecocks may surprise some people at how well they play the Gators in this game. I don't think it will be well enough to win it though.

PRO FOOTBALL PICKS--WEEK 8
The Titans are playing again. This time Vince Young is starting. As I see it that's not the problem. We have a terrible defense and lots of injuries. Anyway I
went a 3-2 last week making me 23-12 for the year. The Vols looked good last night.
Jaguars 30, Titans 17--I don't think the Titans have fixed anything by starting Vince Young. I hate to say this but I think they will be lucky to win a game this season.
Ravens 23, Broncos 20--I'm still not drinking the Denver kool-aid. If the win this game I'll think differently but I don't think they will win in Baltimore.
Packers 30, Vikings 21--The
Vikings are the better team in this game but emotion takes over for the Packers and they win a big one.
Saints 37, Falcons 23--I believe the Saints are going to be the NFC Super Bowl representative. I'm not sure who is going to beat them in the regular season. New England is due in the Super Dome later in the season but I don't think they can handle the Saint's offense.
Jets 31, Dolphins 27--Dolphins lost a tough game against the Saints last week. I don't think they have recovered. And to go into New York to win is just asking too much.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL--WEEK 9
I had a terrible week. I went 1-4, only getting the Tennessee game correct and if Alabama hadn't blocked that field goal I would have been skunked. Adding insult to injury I picked Kansas over Oklahoma and as Katherine pointed out to me afterward I should have listened to her. You're right, Kat. The Sooners can win road games. So I regressed to a 24-16 for the year. Let's face it. If you're in Tennessee and a football fan you're not having a good year. Nevertheless...
Tennessee 24, South Carolina 20--Steve Superior comes to Knoxville and the Gamecocks are ranked and Tennessee isn't. I think this is a pivotal game for the Vols because if they win this one it's possible that they could win out the rest of the season with games against Memphis, Mississippi, Kentucky and Vanderbilt. That would make them bowl eligible. But it starts with SC. They have played ranked teams well this year. We shall see.
Texas 30, Oklahoma St 17--Just too much Longhorns for State in this one.
Oregon 30, USC 27--It sounds a bit odd but I think USC ranked number four is actually the underdog in this one against Oregon who is ranked tenth. But that makes them dangerous and therefore more apt to win. I expect the Ducks to be fired up though and pull this one out. But barely.
Oklahoma 37, Kansas St 17--I've learned my lesson. Don't bet against the Sooners.
West Virginia 30, South Florida 21--South Florida plays the Mountaineers close for a half but they wear down and WVU pulls away.

PRO FOOTBALL PICKS--WEEK 7
The Titans are off this week. Thank the Big Guy for small favors. I
went a much improved 4-1 last week making me 20-10 for the year. And the Vols looked good against the number one team in the country yesterday so maybe Tennessee football is looking up.
Bengals 27, Bears 20--I'm not sure which Bengals team is going to show up today. It might be the one that beat the Steelers or the one that lost to Houston. I'll flip a coin and say the former.
Giants 30, Cardinals 17--The Giants' defense looked bad against the Saints last week. I think they will fix that this week and take their frustrations out on the Cards.
Steelers 24, Vikings 21--The Vikings are playing well but it's tough to win in Pittsburgh. Just ask the Titans who if they had won their season opener there might be a totally different team. I think the Steelers defense wins this one.
Jets 27, Raiders 21--NFL defenses are starting to get to Jets quarterback Sanchez. But the Oakland offense is usually inept. That happens again and the Jets bounce back.
Falcons 31, Cowboys 27--I like this Falcons team a lot. They keep winning big games. This is a big one today in Dallas and they come through again.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL--WEEK 8
I improved to 4-1 last week losing only the Virginia Tech/Georgia Tech game. That makes me a respectable 23-12 for the year. This is a big week for Tennessee fans. Tennessee plays Alabama at their place.
Alabama 20, Tennessee 13--The Vols played pretty well against Florida when they were number one. I think they will play Alabama well too. But it's going to be a low scoring game if both defenses play up to their potential. Tennessee's defense is good but not as good as Alabama. They carry them to the win.
Kansas 30, Oklahoma 28--Three losses already this year for the Sooners. Could this be a fourth? I think so because all of their losses this year have been on the road.
BYU 33, TCU 23--Will this be the BYU team that beat the Sooners or the BYU team that lost to Florida State. TCU is unbeaten but they haven't played the level of competition that BYU has.
Arkansas 30, Mississippi 27--The Razorbacks should have beaten Florida last week but the officials bailed the Gators out again. The Hogs are for real even though Houston Nutt will have the Rebels fired up against his old team.
Michigan State 27, Iowa 24--End of the road for the Hawkeyes win streak. They're a good team and will end up in a BCS bowl but the Spartans knock them out of the race for a national championship.

PRO FOOTBALL PICKS--WEEK 6
I
went another mediocre 3-2 last week making me 16-9 for the year. Between the Titans and my picks it's been a long season.
New England 37, Titans 13--Titans can't win if they get behind. Their defense sucks this year and they're always behind. End of story.
Saints 30, Giants 27--If this game were in New York I think it would be a different story. It's not and it isn't. Most people think the Giants are the number one team in the NFL. I do as well but not today in New Orleans. This is my upset special.
Falcons 24, Bears 21--The Falcons are beginning to believe. Just ask the 49rs. It won't be easy but I think they take da Bears down.
Vikings 27, Ravens 24--Game of the week for the NFL. The Vikes are riding high with Favre and Peterson. They are at home and that makes the difference.
Chargers 31, Broncos 27--The Broncos run comes to an end today in San Diego. I like the Broncos but I thiink they have been playing over their head somewhat.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL--WEEK 7
I improved to 3-2 last week from the horrible 1-4 of the previous week. That makes me 19-11 for the year. The Big Orange has the week off. I'm tempted to count that as a win. They played great against Georgia. That's the good news. The bad news is they have Alabama next weekend. Here I go again.
Texas 30, Oklahoma 17--Everyone is picking Texas to meet Florida or Alabama in the national championship game. I'm not sure that isn't correct. Oklahoma already has two losses. This will be their third.
Virginia Tech 27, Georgia Tech 24--The Hokies are playing great and by losing to Alabama in their first game may put themselves in the national championship picture if they keep winning. They seemed to have found themselves and they have played a tough schedule. I think they win this one too.
Southern California 27, Notre Dame 24--A lot of people are picking the Irish in this one. They are at home which is worth at least 7 points but I think they will still come up short. This is the only time of the year when I actually pull for the Trojans to win.
Iowa 27, Wisconsin 17--This is the best start for a Hawkeye team since the 1920s. I like the way they played Penn State so I'm going to keep drinking their kool-aid.
Alabama 27, South Carolina 13--Steve Superior's defense has carried his team this year. He's going to need them to do it again and his offense to start scoring. Alabama's defense may be the best in the country. They stop the Gamecock's offense cold. End of story.

PRO FOOTBALL PICKS--WEEK 5
I correctly picked the Jags over the Titans last week. That's a win but really it's a loss. I
went another mediocre 3-2 last week. I'm now 13-7 for the year.
Colts 37, Titans 20--This game is a great opportunity for the Titans to redeem themselves somewhat. I don't think they have it in them mentally this year. With two rookie corner backs playing Peyton Manning is going to have a huge day.
Falcons 33, 49rs 30 --San Francisco is an improved team but I think the Falcons are better. The 49rs weaknesses were revealed last week. It happens again this week.
Patriots 24, Broncos 21--Pupil against teacher in this one and I like the teacher. Well, not really but he's got the better team. Broncos have had a recent history of collapsing down the stretch. They start that a bit early today
Dolphins 27, Jets 24--This is my upset special of the week. Jets took a big hit last week in New Orleans. They haven't recovered mentally yet and that makes them ripe for an upset.
Ravens 31, Bengals 20--Bengals are much improved but they face a fierce defense and their own is suspect. I think Flacco shreds their secondary and brings the Bengals back to reality.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL--WEEK 6
I crashed and burned big time last week by going an incredibly bad 1-4. My only correct pick was USC over Cal. That set me back to 16-9 for the year. I may have to regroup if I can't do better this week. I'm going to try to make it easier for myself with an all SEC week.
Georgia 24, Tennessee 20--My heart wants to pick the Vols but my head says no. Georgia really beat LSU last week only to get beat by the men in stripes. I'm afraid they will take their frustration on us. If we ever get a passing game again we might have a chance but it doesn't look like that is going to happen this year.
Alabama 33, Mississippi 20 --Tide rolls rather easily over the Rebels on their home field. I wasn't drinking the kool-aid that everyone else seemed to be about Ole Miss at the start of the season and I'm still not.
Florida 27, LSU 24--Superman may or not play but I still think the Gators can beat the Tigers even without him. They're not as good as last year offensively or defensively but they find a way to win.
South Carolina 27, Kentucky 13--You know it's a strange year in college football when Steve Superior's defense is carrying his team. They do it again this week.
Auburn 35, Arkansas 20 --I really like the Auburn hurry-up offense. I think it kept Monte Kiffin's defense off kilter last week and was a big part of that win. They are a much better team than I thought. But we'll really know for sure on October 24 when they go to LSU.
