Rob Smith, aka Acidman of Gut Rumbles is dead.
I can't tell you when I began reading Rob but it was certainly before I began this blog. He was at times outrageous, crazy, blasphemous, and about anything else you could imagine. He wrote of personal things that most of us simply aren't capable of doing and he did it in his own way that was sometimes beautiful but always compelling to read. There were times I would read his posts and literally wonder if he was going insane. And there were other times I would read and have my heart touched. In the last year or so he was struggling with alcoholism recovery and it showed. But he cleaned himself up and began the trek back to normalcy--if you could ever call anything Acidman did normal.
He's probably as close to a blog father as I have. He once linked to one of my posts and I was shocked at the resulting traffic from that link. On occasion he'd comment too and I'm going to miss that. But I'm going to miss his honesty most. Rob Smith was the original "what you see is what you get." No pretension, just Rob--the good and the bad. And that's why I'm going to miss him and Gut Rumbles.
RIP, A-Man. You've earned it.
Damn. We all knew of his sickness, but to see the words that he really is dead just...sort of stopped me cold.
Damn.
