Some songs stick with us for a lifetime.

People Get Ready Is one of those songs for me.  It came out in the sixties and I'm a child of that era so it's a natural thing for me.  Forty plus years later and it still moves me.

Most people don't realize it but it's a gospel-based song that sprang from the March on Washingon in 1963 led by Martin Luther King and highlighted by his I Have a Dream speech.  Two years later Curtis Mayfield wrote People Get Ready.  It's lyrics go far beyond its original basis.

The song has been covered by hundreds of artists including Bob Dylan and Rod Stewart.  I have several versions of the song on my ITunes but my favorites are by Al Green who sings it with Heather Headley. Youtube won't let me embed it so here's link. Check it out: People Get Ready
